Picnic, Kid's Stage Combat Precedes Macbeth

New York Classical Theatre logoNew York Classical Theatre, the company that presents strolling versions of plays in New York City parks and green spaces, is offering "Picnic & A Play: Family Night" for its staging of William Shakespeare's Macbeth August 9 on Battery Park around Castle Clinton.

In addition to picnics (pickups begin at 5:30 p.m.), the company will conduct a stage combat workshop for children from 6:15–6:45 p.m. The play begins at 7 p.m. "Enjoy a sumptuous premade picnic before the show while your kids (or grandkids!) run off their energy in our Macbeth stage combat workshop (with foam swords!). Then kick back and enjoy the show," says a promotional email from New York Classical Theatre.

Picnics are available for two ($100) or for one ($60), and families can purchase add-on picnic for kids for $10. The picnics feature, depending on the size, locally produced cheeses, cured meats, baguettes, marinated olives, sandwiches, potato chips, black tea and fig jam, sea salt caramels, and bottled water. The kids add-on picnic contains a cookie, fruit, and juice. Picnics come in a canvas tote that the purchaser can keep.

The picnic sales serve as a fund-raiser for the company, which charges no admission to its productions. Therefore, a portion of the price of the picnics is tax deductible.
