Beer Adds Incentive for Improv Class

Riverside Theatre in the ParkFor those lacking the courage to undertake improvisation, Riverside Theatre in Iowa City, Iowa, has just the encouragement for you: beer. Two beers, actually.

Kristy Hartsgrove Mooers @ MERGE Iowa City will be teaching a four-week class in the fundamentals of improvisation “in your personal and professional life.” Each participant will receive two beers at each class.

Mooers has taught improvisation and acting at the University of Iowa since 2015 and as part of the corporate outreach program at Theatre Cedar Rapids. She also has taught at Coe College and Cornell College. She has acted locally at Riverside Theatre, Iowa Summer Repertory, Working Group Theatre, and the Old Creamery Theatre, and regionally at the Illinois Shakespeare Festival and Chicago’s Boho Theatre. She holds a Master of Fine Arts in acting from Illinois State University.

Classes are scheduled for 7–9 p.m. on Tuesdays, September 24 through October 15. Cost is $100 per person. Classes will be held at MERGE, 136 S. Dubuque St. in Iowa City.

Participants must be 21 or over, and space is limited.
